N.T. Wright’s “Surprised By Hope”

February 24, 2008 · 1 Comment

I recently picked up a copy of Tom Wright’s “Surprised by Hope,” I’ve included a few quotes that stood out to me so far. I have been expecting the release of this book for a while now. The topics discussed are not new to me, but remain fresh, and exciting. Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church.

I recommend picking up your own copy. I promise the topics examined in this book will surprise you. (I know, sounds funny) Don’t mind your religious background, both Christians and those outside the church will discover a fresh, balanced and biblical perspective on Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church.

“The classic Christian doctrine, therefore, is actually far more powerful and revolutionary than the Platonic one. it was people who believed robustly in the resurrection, not people who compromised and went in for a mere spiritualized survival, who stood up against Caesar in the first centuries of the Christian era.”

“A piety that sees death as the moment of ‘going home at last,’ the time when we are ‘called to God’s eternal peace,’ has no quarrel with powermongers who want to carve up the world to suit their own ends.”

I hope this stirs up interest for all parties. Enjoy the links!
